Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Pressure treated and composite like decking?
Pressure treated wood is used all the time still. We use it as the framing of the deck even with a composite material decking. Pressure treated is less expensive up front but comes with maintenance to prolong the life of the deck, as a composite deck, while more expensive up front, is virtually maintenance free.
What kind of design options are out there?
There can be a lot of design, or layout configurations to think about. We like to sit down at the site and look at everything. We can draw up a design with you, everything from the railings, materials, the direction of the planks, stairs, lighting, etc. You dream it, we can build it.
I have an old deck; can I refinish it or do I need to start over?
Every deck is different. Some can be saved if the framing, (structural) is good still. Sometimes we can take the railings off, decking off and replace that and be as good as new. Other times it might be too far gone, or not structurally sound any longer and best to start new. Best thing is to allow us out to the property for a free inspection and discuss your options.
Do I need a permit to build a deck?
It is always best practice to pull a permit. Most counties require a permit to be pulled for building a new deck. This will then require the footings to be inspected and once it is complete as well. This can give the owner the peace of mind that it is done to code and correctly and keep you out of legal trouble with the county.
