1. Does this type of work need to be permitted?
Yes, this type of work should always be permitted. This keep you the owner out of trouble with the city and or county as they can fine you for this work not being permitted. This also ensures you that it will be done correctly and to code per the city and or county.
2. Do you have a structural engineer on staff?
No, we do not staff structural engineers. We do however work closing with engineers. You can use your own structural engineer, or we can facilitate one for you. We will work based off their recommendations and what we have to do as well code. This keeps both parties up front and honest, giving you a better peace of mind.
3. What type of wood is best used for these projects?
Pressure treated wood is always best for decks and also composite decking. For interior framing, it is not necessary to use pressure treated wood as it is not exposed to any elements. The size of the wood is dictated on the project and what the members are designed to do.
4. Can’t I do this myself and get the materials from a store?
Yes, however some things are best meant for professionals as this is part of your home, one of the largest investments you make in your life. Done wrong, it can cost you a lot more in the long run and a lot of headaches. The most expensive projects and or purchases, are the ones you have to make twice.
